Federer and del Potro have not met in Grand Slam play since the Argentine famously defeated Federer in the final of the 2009 US Open.

That victory marked the last time del Potro had a significant victory in a Grand Slam match as he suffered a wrist injury a few months later.

Although he has been back on tour for over a year now, del Potro has not been as lethal as he was prior to the injury, and his efforts against Federer will be insightful.

If del Potro can defeat Federer in a Grand Slam quarterfinal match, then the Argentine will certainly have taken a major step toward silencing his critics.

However, if Federer wins, then del Potro's run at the 2012 Australian Open will not look that impressive. Despite making the quarters, del Potro has beaten no one more talented than Philipp Kohlschreiber—a veteran player but one who has never made it to a Grand Slam quarterfinal—at Melbourne Park this year.
Del Potro and Federer have met nine times in the past, with the Swiss Maestro taking seven of those matches. They have met four times in majors with Federer going 3-1 in those efforts, including a straight-sets victory in the quarters of the 2009 Australian Open.

The only match that the two players have played since del Potro came back from his wrist injury was a best-of-three-set affair at the Cincinnati Masters in 2011.- http://bleacherreport.com

Djoko, currently ranked 1st in the ATP Rankings, is a very big favourite in this match. So far he is playing very strong at this AO and today Novak will search only for the win in three fast sets.On the other hand Hewitt is a big underdog in this match. So far he played suprisingly good tennis at this AO, however against the best player of the world he will have a very tough time to win a set.

This total games line allows Hewitt to win 11 games which I think is way above what he can hope for as this will surely end in 3 quick sets and I don't see Hewitt getting past 3 or 4 games in any of them and I'm fairly confident Djokovic will win at least 1 set with a 6-2 or better result which will give us some margin even if Hewitt manages to make one of the sets close.

British number one enjoys himself in victory over Llodra

British number one Andy Murray admitted he had really enjoyed himself as he wrapped up an entertaining straight sets victory over Michael Llodra in Melbourne on Saturday.

The British number one went through the gears in the third round match, producing some scintillating tennis as he roared away to a 6-4 6-2 6-0 triumph.

The Scot won a number of thrilling points and, judging by the reaction of the sell-out crowd, earned himself some new fans in the process.

He hugged Llodra after outwitting him in one exchange and, when interviewed on court at the end of the match, Murray said: "Every point seemed to be a fun point. It was a fun tennis match, which isn't normal at a Grand Slam.

"I had great support and it was packed from the first point to the last. I'm really enjoying myself.

"That was my style tonight. I hope everyone enjoyed it."

With the crowd appreciative of his performance, Murray even found time to joke about how he plans to spend the rest of the weekend, adding: "I'm going to go out and get hammered!" - http://www1.skysports.com/

Australian star progresses after Roddick injury

Home favourite Lleyton Hewitt is through to the third round of this year's Australian Open after Andy Roddick quit their contest.

Roddick took the first set of the battle of the former world number ones but he soon fell behind in the second following a stumble and it soon became apparent he had a problem with his leg.

At 3-0 down, the four-time Melbourne semi-finalist left the court for treatment.

When he returned, the 15th seed battled on gamely, but Hewitt's relentless chasing style is not suited to anyone carrying an injury and when the Aussie took the third set, Roddick decided it was time to call it a day.

The score was 3-6 6-3 6-4 at the time.

"It was a nightmare for both of us,'' said Hewitt.

"Obviously Andy stretched something and it's hard to concentrate for the player up the other end.

"Andy is such a great fighter so you know when he is struggling. - http://www1.skysports.com/
