Andy Murray and Jamie Murray will face top seeds and defending champions Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan in the second round of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters after defeating Santiago Gonzalez and Christopher Kas 6-4, 6-3 on Tuesday.

The brothers were unable to save the three break points faced on serve, but broke the Mexican-German pairing five times from 10 opportunities for the 67-minute victory. It was their first match win together on clay courts.

The Murrays and Bryans will be facing off for the first time. The Bryans are two-time champions at this ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament, having won the title in 2007 and in '11.

Oliver Marach and Alexander Peya, the Heineken Open champions, topped Eric Butorac and Bruno Soares 6-2, 3-6, 12-10 in one hour and 18 minutes to set a second-round meeting with eighth seeds Frantisek Cermak and Filip Polasek.

David Marrero and Fernando Verdasco will square off against No. 3 seeds Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic after easing past Tomas Berdych and Alexandr Dolgopolov 7-5, 6-2. Marrero and Verdasco won 75 per cent of their second serve return points to break the Czech-Ukrainian duo four times.

The Spanish tandem is looking to lift their third clay-court trophy of the season, having won back-to-back titles at the Copa Claro in Buenos Aires and Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco.

Their countrymen Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez also advanced in first-round action, defeating Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Jean-Julien Rojer 6-4, 6-4. Granollers and Lopez will play seventh-seeded Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau for a place in the quarter-finals.
