Andy Roddick and Alexandr Dolgopolov, outside challengers to qualify for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, have come into the picture this week at the Shanghai Rolex Masters after a slew of upsets have opened up the draw. Several players in the Battle For London missed out on adding valuable points to their 2011 South African Airways ATP Year-To-Date Rankings with early-round losses.Roddick dismissed ninth-placed Nicolas Almagro to advance to his first Shanghai quarter-final in three appearances. Having started the tournament in 20th place, a run to the title would propel Roddick all the way up to the ninth position.
The American, who has qualified for the season-ending event eight straight years, has a great chance to reach the Shanghai final should he get past No. 3 seed David Ferrer on Friday, as he owns a combined 8-1 record against potential semi-final opponents Feliciano Lopez and Florian Mayer. Roddick won his most recent meeting with Ferrer, a fourth-round encounter at the US Open.
